Workshops

What happens when we are given permission to tell the unfiltered, authentic truth about our life experiences? I'm a StoryCenter trained workshop facilitator, helping newcomers to video-editing create personal narrative videos about their life & life’s work.

As a digital storytelling workshop facilitator trained by StoryCenter, I have co-facilitated a dozen 2-3 day personal narrative workshops where participants produce a 2-3 minute narrative video about their lives. This strain of workshop facilitation includes teaching participatory media, with a philosophy influenced by testimonio and Paulo Freire, and providing technical and emotional support, including video/audio production & editing.

From 2016 to the present, StoryCenter traveled to 60 libraries in California collecting some 500 Digital Stories, and over 100 interviews and special projects.  The work has been permanently archived by California Revealed, at archive.org/details/storycenter. I co-facilitated 5 such workshops in California public libraries as part of California Listens from 2016 to 2017.

California Listens Archival Project

In the winter of 2021, as the COVID-19 pandemic continued to rage, StoryCenter brought together an extraordinary group of women working in climate resilience to bridge science, story, and environmental & racial justice. The Earth Stories Project curriculum wove together land acknowledgements, poetry, story sharing, and media production, to support the creation of short videos that point to intimate connections to, and disconnections from, the natural world. On September 24, 2021, we shared these stories in a virtual premiere, featuring short interviews with the storytellers.
